About this book
Under Fire is a story inscribed to General Wesley Merritt, U. S. Army, whom the dedication calls our honored Colonel in the old days and a valued friend through all these later years. Jimmy says Parson Davies is pure gold, and that Parson wrote every week to a girl whose letters kept coming all the time.
Boynton, riding forward half a dozen yards, says that if the crowd moves a pony length forward they fire, and Red Dog deigns no other response than a scowl. McPhail, told the terms of the parley, refuses, saying he won't step off the agency porch and that there are seven armed men there. The operator says Grand Island is the place to catch them and that they breakfast there at seven.
