About this book
The account of coloured glass describes little rounds or squares inserted into holes pierced in marble or plaster slabs that filled window openings. The account says that coloured glass is really easier to procure than glass that is perfectly clear. The discussion of early windows says that no specimens of the mosaic kind seem to have survived, though contemporary documents refer to them.
Maestro Gian carves astrological globes, salamanders in fire, royal emblems, open books, trophies and masks. The description of the stone says that, although coarse, the material can be worked as freely as marble. The comparison of glasses says that clear glass shaded with darker tints remains transparent even in its shadows, while Venetian glass, obscure by nature and darker still in shadow, loses all transparency.
