About this book
Raoul-Auger Feuillet is the author of Orchesography, or, The Art of Dancing. The book describes itself as one wherein The whole Art is explain’d; with compleat Tables of all Steps us’d in Dancing, and Rules for the Motions of the Arms. The book says any person (who understands Dancing) may of himself learn all manner of Dances.
A letter addressed to Mr. Isaac says Dancing and Musick seem to be of near an equal Antiquity, and even of an equal Extent. The preface says Furetier, in his Historical Dictionary, tells of a curious Treatise of this Art by one Thoinet Arbeau, printed 1588, at Langres. The text gives it as a general rule that in turning to the Right, you first remove your left Hand, and in turning to the Left, you remove your Right. The text advises that if you find any Difficulty in writing any of the Steps, you must make Use of your Table of Steps.
