About this book
F. E. Baily begins Virginia's Wild Oats in the great drawing-room at Wynwood. The Honorable Virginia Lauriston tells Charles in her clear voice that a girl is not necessarily a fool just because she is a girl. The room has furniture looted from a continental palace, Titian's Pink Lady on the south wall and French windows opening on terraces, and Sir Charles Gillespie likes to sit there in summer when the cost of heating need not worry him.
In another passage Lord Fordingbridge arrives by car at half past twelve, greets Vingie as an old friend and jokes about a young damsel captured by his bow and spear. Rupert meets them at the door, saying he has worked out a matter in detail since the code telegram. Elsewhere Maria Dolores promises a dinner party, and Jim Andaside warns Vingie to beware of an Iberian revenge.
