About this book

The preface presents efficiency as a demand of the time, describing the call for efficiency as applying in peace no less than in war. The book describes power as either directly inherited or developed through what the account calls an intelligent application of the laws governing physical culture. The discussion defines vitality as normal functioning and says that satisfactory performance by all bodily organs offers practical assurance of a plentiful supply.

The account of digestion places the beginning of the blood-making process in the stomach and calls strength of that organ indispensable to building vitality. The discussion of thankfulness says that gratitude for what one has received need not prevent a person from striving for more and better things.
