About this book
Wind of Destiny is a book credited to Sara Lindsay Coleman Porter. The foreword says the letters in this story are real letters, written to its writer by the man the world knows as O. Henry.
A child named Dicky is found digging up the lawn on the day of mammy’s disciplining, and shrieks, 'Mr. Devil, Mr. Devil, can you hear?' In an entry dated August 13th, Sunday night, the speaker says scientists tell us that a change that is slow but complete takes place in the human body every seven years, and calls them wrong about the process. Words that Bobby wrote roll over the speaker in a great, mounting, singing wave: 'You have sympathy and a deep and true humanness.' A buggy comes down the road with two men in it; one man gets out, and the other turns the buggy around and drives back toward the village.
