About this book
Wizard is a story by Laurence M. Janifer about telepaths who live in hiding. It starts with a note on groups of telepaths that existed long before the Masquerade, the protection against non-telepaths, was fully formulated, and places one such group in the district of Offenburg around 1594.
The story follows Jonas, who in May 1605 stands on a hilltop looking down at the town of Speyer. He is short, with small, almost hidden eyes and a lumpy face, carries no sword and has no von to his name. In another passage he thinks about a long-distance link with a man named Claerten, which drains the body's energy. In another passage Jonas speaks to an Inquisitor, and a man named Knupf says it is a trick.
