About this book
Woodwork Joints sets out how joints are laid out, how they are made and where they are used, as its title page says. This revised edition carries four hundred illustrations and an index, and the text keeps pointing the reader to numbered figures.
One passage on jointing boards discusses which way the heart side of the timber faces and the grain of quartered timber. For thin boards it recommends a shooting board, with the boards turned face up, then face down, as the edges are planed. Another passage explains how to cut a hinge recess: deepen the gauge lines with a three-quarter inch chisel, then pare the recess flat. It also shows stopped hinged joints for box work. The index lists entries such as dovetail halved joints, dovetailed scarf joint, dowel plate and dovetail puzzles.
