About this book
Discovery of Witches by Thomas Potts is an edition printed in 1845 of Potts's Discovery of Witches in the County of Lancaster. One passage looks at earlier writers on witchcraft, among them Sir Robert Filmer, John Wagstaffe, whose The Question of Witchcraft Debated appeared in 1669, and Webster's Discovery of Supposed Witchcraft.
The main text gives dated accounts of people from the county who are named in witchcraft cases, among them Margaret Pearson of Paddiham, in August 1612, and Isabell Robey. It is printed in seventeenth-century spelling. Elsewhere the text quotes A. à Wood on Wagstaffe, who died in 1677, and gives an anecdote from an old inhabitant of Burnley.
