[3]Le vice-amiral Verhuell avait été au service de France. —C'était un homme distingué, il passa de lieutenant de vaisseau vice-amiral, il fut d'abord ministre de la marine du roi Louis, maréchal du royaume, comte de Sevenaar, Grand-Croix de l'ordre de l'Union, etc., puis, ambassadeur à la cour de France. A cette faveur succéda une disgrâce complète, il prit alors du service en France, où il fut très bien traité et retrouva la faveur qu'il avait perdue en Hollande.
