Shailajananda Mukhopadhyay was born on 19 March 1901, in Andal village of Burdwan district. He was an Indian Bengali writer and film director.
He studied in Raniganj Shiharsol school, in his school life, he was good friends with Kazi Nazrul Islam. At that time, he wrote poetry and Nazrul wrote prose. He passed Matriculation from Nakrakonda School and joined Kasimbazar Polytechnic College in Bagbazar to learn to typewrite.
He pioneered writing meaningful Bengali stories about miners. He wrote about 150 books including novels and stories.
He received Anand Award, Ultorath Award, and D.Litt from Jadavpur and Burdwan University.
