Sei Somoy is one of Sunil Gangopadhyay’s masterworks, a novel about nineteenth century Bengal during the years of social reform, religious change, and the slow rise of Bengali nationalism. Real historical figures move through the book alongside fictional ones.

It won the Sahitya Akademi Award and is widely considered one of the great modern Bengali novels. Long, but never dull.
