George Stanley Faber was an English clergyman and theological writer known for studies of scripture, prophecy, and church doctrine. Educated at University College, Oxford, he became a fellow and tutor at Lincoln College before holding parish and cathedral appointments. Horae Mosaicae, or, A View of the Mosaical Records developed from his 1801 Bampton Lectures and compared the Mosaic account with ancient traditions and Christian interpretation. A Practical Treatise on the Ordinary Operations of the Holy Spirit followed in 1813 and addressed the relation between divine influence, moral choice, and everyday religious life. The pair captures Faber's characteristic movement between large historical comparisons and practical doctrinal argument. He later served as master of Sherburn Hospital and continued publishing on election, the Reformation, and biblical prophecy. His long bibliography reflects the disputes that shaped Anglican theology in the early nineteenth century, while the lecture origin of Horae Mosaicae explains its carefully organized sequence of claims and supporting examples.
