Adil Salahi

Adil Salahi edited Islam in Perspective, a twice-weekly full-page column in the Saudi English-language daily Arab News, for more than thirty years, having worked earlier in Syrian radio and at the BBC Arabic Service. He read Islamic subjects with teachers in the mosques of Damascus and holds their certification in the traditional manner, and he went on to teach at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education. His largest job as a translator was carrying Sayyid Qutb's eighteen-volume commentary In the Shade of the Qur'an into English. Pioneers of Islamic Scholarship, from the Islamic Foundation, sets out the lives and thinking of ten figures, beginning with the founders of the schools of law that Muslims still follow and closing with two scholars from a much later era.
