Alex Pavesi

The Eighth Detective is built out of seven short detective stories, each one deliberately wrong in some particular, and a framing conversation between the mathematician who wrote them and the editor who has come to reprint them. The mathematics is real: Pavesi holds a doctorate in the subject, and the book rests on a claim about the structures a murder mystery is able to take. He worked as a software developer before publishing, and it was his first novel.
