Alfred Elwes wrote Victorian stories in which animals recount eventful lives through humor, hardship, and moral reflection. The Adventures of a Cat, and a Fine Cat Too! lets a feline narrator remember changing homes, human companions, and narrow escapes. In The Adventures of a Dog, and a Good Dog Too, loyalty anchors a canine life shaped by separation and reunion. Harrison Weir illustrated all three volumes, and their title pages pair Elwes's authorship with Weir's drawings.
