Amanda Glaze
Amanda Glaze writes historical fantasy that connects supernatural mystery with the restricted choices available to young women. The Second Death of Edie and Violet Bond, her debut novel, follows seventeen-year-old twin mediums in Sacramento in 1885. Edie can enter the spirit world, while Violet can open a passage to it, abilities they conceal within a travelling Spiritualist performance. Their investigation begins when a threatening presence linked to their mother’s death crosses into ordinary life. Union Square & Co. released The Second Death of Edie and Violet Bond in 2022, and Publishers Weekly identifies its blend of historical setting, sisterhood, mystery, and social commentary. Glaze drew inspiration from real teenage twin mediums and gives the sisters different public roles, including performance, poetry, and political speech. The Second Death of Edie and Violet Bond therefore uses its ghost story to examine who is believed, who may speak openly, and how sisters protect one another when institutions offer little safety.
