Amber Logan is an author and professor whose fiction draws on Japanese culture, travel, food, photography, and the Gothic tradition. The Secret Garden of Yanagi Inn, published by CamCat Books in 2022, was her debut novel and a modern reimagining of Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden. The story follows Mari, a grieving photographer who accepts an assignment at a secluded inn in Japan. There she encounters an abandoned garden, a mysterious girl, and family secrets that change her understanding of loss and belonging. Logan uses the inn, its landscape, and Japanese customs as more than atmosphere; they shape Mari's movement from isolation toward renewed connection. The novel combines contemporary women's fiction with a gentle ghost story and literary retelling, retaining the restorative garden motif while creating a new protagonist and setting. The Secret Garden of Yanagi Inn established Logan's interest in stories where place, memory, and cultural encounter guide emotional transformation, giving her first book a distinct position between Gothic mystery and hopeful family drama.
