Amy Trueblood
Amy Trueblood brings historical settings to fiction aimed at younger audiences, focusing on ambition, family expectations, and women entering professions that resisted them. Across a Broken Shore is set in San Francisco during the Great Depression and follows Willa MacCarthy as she weighs her family's plans for her against her desire to study medicine. Flux released the book in 2019. Trueblood earned a journalism degree from Arizona and worked in entertainment before turning to fiction. The book was selected by the Junior Library Guild and appeared on an American Library Association feminist reading list, while also receiving independent publishing honors. Her earlier novel, Nothing But Sky, centers on a barnstorming pilot in the years following World War I. Across a Broken Shore continues her interest in historically grounded young women pursuing demanding paths, connecting Willa's personal choices to changing medical work and the pressures of Depression-era life.
