Andrea Eames draws on a Zimbabwean childhood in the setting and sensory detail of her debut, The Cry of the Go-Away Bird. The novel follows Elise, a young white girl whose childhood on a farm unfolds during Zimbabwe’s political upheaval around the turn of the millennium.
