Author: Andy Field

Field is professor of quantitative methods at Sussex, and his statistics textbooks are known for a device the genre mostly avoids: jokes, recurring characters and a narrator who admits when something is confusing. Discovering Statistics Using R, written with Jeremy Miles of the RAND Corporation and with Zoë Field, ran to 992 pages when SAGE published it in 2012, and it teaches the R language alongside the statistics rather than after them. His research is on child anxiety and on why people find mathematics hard to learn, which is not unconnected to the way he writes.
