Gareth James

An Introduction to Statistical Learning has four names on it: Gareth James, Daniela Witten, Trevor Hastie and Robert Tibshirani. That is a large part of why it became the standard first course. James is a statistician who was dean of the Goizueta Business School at Emory, having spent years at USC, and works on functional data analysis and prediction with many more variables than observations.
