The treehouse has a bowling alley, a see-through swimming pool and a marshmallow machine that fires into your mouth whenever you walk past hungry. Andy Griffiths and illustrator Terry Denton opened it at thirteen storeys in 2011 and have bolted on thirteen more with every book since: The 26-Storey Treehouse, The 39-Storey, then the 52-, the 65-, up to The 104-Storey and The 117-Storey Treehouse. The 13-Story Treehouse: Monkey Mayhem! is that first book under its American title. Inside, a cartoon Andy and a cartoon Terry are forever meant to be writing the book you are holding, and forever interrupted by flying cats, giant bananas, gorillas and sea monsters posing as mermaids. Griffiths was born in Melbourne in 1961 and taught high school before meeting Denton on a professional writing course at Deakin University in 1991. He serves as Australian Children's Laureate for 2026 and 2027.
