Arthur Leo Zagat
Arthur Leo Zagat was an American lawyer who became a prolific pulp writer, producing science fiction, horror, mystery, and adventure for magazines including Argosy, Astounding, and Thrilling Wonder Stories. Children of Tomorrow belongs to his interconnected Tomorrow sequence about a devastated near-future America. Seven Out of Time, serialized in Argosy in 1939 and published by Fantasy Press in 1949, sends attorney John March and six people from different eras into a remote future. The Lanson Screen first appeared in Thrilling Wonder Stories in December 1936, building invasion suspense around an experimental defensive technology. When the Sleepers Woke, published in Astounding Stories in November 1932, leaves two enemy groups confronting the aftermath of a final war. Zagat often placed ordinary professional competence inside catastrophic speculation. Across these four works, technological wonder repeatedly carries institutional danger, while survival depends on whether people divided by fear can recover cooperation and emotional responsibility.
