Auguste Comte

Auguste Comte (1798-1857) was a French philosopher who founded positivism and gave sociology its name. Reacting to the upheavals of post-revolutionary France, he sought to ground social reform in scientific method, and his ideas went on to influence thinkers across philosophy, science, and the study of society.
