Author: B. G. Brogdon
B. G. Brogdon was the professional name of Byron Gilliam Brogdon, an American physician regarded by colleagues as a pioneer of forensic radiology. He led radiology at the University of South Alabama, eventually becoming a distinguished professor emeritus and a consultant to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. His research showed how medical imaging could assist identification, document injuries, and connect clinical evidence with legal investigation. CRC Press published A Radiologic Atlas of Abuse, Torture, Terrorism, and Inflicted Trauma in 2003, with Brogdon, Hermann Vogel, and John D. McDowell sharing authorship and editorial responsibility. Organized as a specialist visual reference, the atlas draws on hundreds of images to explain how radiologic findings can distinguish deliberate injury from disease, accident, or normal variation. Brogdon's contribution extends his earlier book Forensic Radiology and decades of teaching across medicine and forensic science. The atlas brings that work into a reference designed to help radiologists, pathologists, investigators, and courts interpret imaging evidence in case context.
