Beck Weathers is a physician and mountaineer whose public story grew from his survival during the 1996 Everest disaster. Left for Dead follows both the expedition and the longer personal reckoning that came afterward, giving equal weight to recovery, family, and the costs of an all-consuming pursuit. Stephen G. Michaud coauthored the memoir, which Random House published with the subtitle My Journey Home from Everest. Weathers later became a speaker on resilience, decision-making, and the reassessment of priorities. His account also appears within a wider body of writing and film about the expedition, but its distinctive perspective is personal: a climber and doctor considering how an extreme ordeal altered his understanding of home and responsibility.
