Blake Hoena
Blake Hoena writes children's nonfiction, graphic narratives, and interactive adventures across history, mythology, science, and popular culture. Can You Survive an Alien Invasion? places the reader inside a global emergency as spacecraft enter Earth's atmosphere and every decision creates a new route through the story. Capstone published it in 2015 as part of the You Choose: Doomsday series, with illustrations by Paul Fisher-Johnson. The branching structure turns familiar invasion imagery into a practical reading challenge: survival depends on evaluating danger, choosing an action, and accepting its consequences before trying another path. Hoena grew up in central Wisconsin and later studied creative writing in Minnesota. His extensive work for younger audiences includes National Geographic Kids titles on dinosaurs, mythology, soccer, birds of prey, and reptiles. That range reflects a career built around translating subjects into lively forms, whether the reader is following factual explanations or steering a fictional crisis.
