Bronwyn Parry
Bronwyn Parry was an Australian novelist known for romantic suspense grounded in the rural communities and wild landscapes of New South Wales. Dark Country is the second Dungirri novel, following As Darkness Falls and preceding Darkening Skies. It brings former resident Gil Gillespie back to the town and makes local police sergeant Kris Mathews responsible for an inquiry complicated by his history, her judgment, and the loyalties surrounding them. The initial Hachette Australia edition appeared during 2009. Australian Romance Readers Association voters chose it as Favourite Romantic Suspense Novel, and it became a finalist for both a Romance Writers of America RITA Award and the Daphne du Maurier Award. Parry grew up among books and set several later novels in similarly remote Australian communities, including the Goodabri sequence. Dark Country shows her characteristic balance of crime plotting, landscape, and developing trust, using Dungirri not merely as scenery but as a close community whose memories influence every new decision.
