Snowed in one winter in the Colorado mountains, Gerri Hill started writing romances between women to keep herself amused, and her first book, One Summer Night, appeared in 2000. More than forty novels have followed, nearly all from the independent press Bella Books, mixing romance with crime plots and outdoor settings. Sierra City (2004) puts a search and rescue officer in the Sierra Nevada opposite a reclusive writer returning after sixteen years away. The Rainbow Cedar (2008) follows an interior designer whose long relationship is quietly coming apart while she keeps crossing paths with a landscape designer. Pelican's Landing (2015) sends a city professional back to Rockport on the Texas Gulf Coast after her brother dies in a car accident, to help her estranged parents run the family tourist shop. Hill has taken several Golden Crown Literary Society awards, including one in 2022 for The Great Charade, and was a Lambda Literary Award finalist for At Seventeen. She lives in East Texas with her longtime partner Diane, on five acres of woods with a garden and an orchard.
