Bryn Greenwood
All the Ugly and Wonderful Things puts a girl in a Kansas drug house and follows her relationship, which begins in childhood, with a much older man who works for her father. The novel is written entirely from inside her account of it. A great many readers concluded that it romanticises the abuse of a child; Greenwood's answer is that reporting how the girl experienced it is not the same as endorsing what was done to her. Both readings are on the record and the book has been argued about since 2016. She has said she grew up around that world without specifying which parts are hers.
