Adib Khorram
1984
By day Adib Khorram is a graphic designer, videographer and projectionist in Kansas City, Missouri, the city he grew up in, having studied design and technical theatre at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and then at the Vancouver Film School. Darius the Great Is Not Okay (2018) sends Darius Kellner, a half-Iranian teenager on medication for depression, to Yazd to meet his grandparents for the first time, where a neighbour named Sohrab offers the friendship he has never managed at home. It took the 2019 William C. Morris prize for a debut, the Asian/Pacific American Award for young adult literature and a Boston Globe-Horn Book honour. Darius the Great Deserves Better (2020) picks him up back in Oregon and was named a Stonewall Honor Book. Khorram is Iranian American, gay, a member of the Baháʼí Faith and a serious tea drinker.
