Camonghne Felix
Camonghne Felix is a poet, essayist, and former political communications strategist whose writing joins lyric form with cultural and personal analysis. Dyscalculia, published by One World in 2023, is a memoir subtitled A Love Story of Epic Miscalculation. The book uses the language of mathematics and Felix’s experience with dyscalculia to examine heartbreak, memory, attachment, and recovery. Its short sections move between recollection, argument, image, and self-questioning rather than following a strictly chronological structure. Felix previously published the poetry collection Build Yourself a Boat, which was longlisted for the National Book Award, and that poetic background remains visible in the memoir’s compression and associative movement. Dyscalculia is memoir rather than a novel or conventional self-help work. The book extends Felix’s interest in the relationship between private feeling and public language, using miscalculation as both a lived condition and an organizing metaphor.
