Candice Brown

Candice Brown brings the habits of a home baker, teacher, and pub landlady to cookbooks built around comfort and generosity. Happy Cooking gathers easy meals and treats that she associates with pleasure, reassurance, and taking time to reset. Its recipes range from chicken nuggets and brown-butter macaroni cheese to cinnamon pastry twists, combining quick everyday dishes with slower projects for an absorbing afternoon in the kitchen. Ebury released the book in 2021 under the subtitle Easy Uplifting Meals and Comforting Treats. Brown won The Great British Bake Off in 2016 after working as a secondary-school teacher. She grew up helping in pubs run by her family, and later took over the Green Man in Eversholt with her brother Ben. Those experiences give Happy Cooking a practical social frame: food is presented not as performance, but as a way to care for oneself and bring other people together. Her earlier cookbook, Comfort, likewise draws on familiar flavors and memories.
