Oliver turned up on television in 1999 as a young cook filmed scooting around London, and the format hid how much technique the recipes were actually carrying. The campaigning came later. Jamie's School Dinners in 2005 pushed school food onto front pages and into government policy, and he spent years arguing for a tax on sugary drinks, which Britain brought in during 2018. The books here are the domestic ones, each built around a constraint: fifteen minutes, thirty minutes, five ingredients. His restaurant group collapsed in 2019 with about a thousand jobs lost, and he has talked about that at length rather than around it.
