Catherine Marshall gained prominence as an American biographer and Christian writer whose work grew from family experience, faith, and close observation of ministry. A Man Called Peter recounts the life of her husband, Peter Marshall, from his Scottish childhood and move to America through his Presbyterian ministry and service as chaplain of the United States Senate. First published by McGraw-Hill in 1951, the book brought his sermons, private character, and public vocation to a broad readership. Marshall later became known for Christy and other works of religious fiction and nonfiction, but this early biography established her characteristic interest in belief as something tested through daily decisions, relationships, and service.
