Chris Bohjalian
1962
Bohjalian has written more than twenty novels and changes subject completely each time, which he treats as the job rather than a risk. Midwives put a home birth on trial in Vermont and became an Oprah selection. The Sandcastle Girls is about the fate of the Armenians in 1915, which his grandparents survived, and is the book he has said he had to work up to for decades. Hour of the Witch sets a divorce petition in Puritan Boston, where asking for one is close to confessing witchcraft. He lives in Vermont and has been writing a newspaper column there for many years.
