Claire Eliza Bartlett
Claire Eliza Bartlett uses speculative fiction and mystery to question the stories communities tell about young women. The Good Girls examines a classmate’s death through four students whose reputations have hardened into convenient school stereotypes. Its shifting perspectives gradually test those labels and the assumptions behind them. HarperTeen published the novel for teenage readers in 2020. Bartlett also wrote the fantasy novels We Rule the Night and The Winter Duke. She studied history and archaeology, later lived in Denmark and led tours there. Those interests in evidence, interpretation and competing accounts suit a bibliography that moves from secondary-school suspicion to invented kingdoms while repeatedly asking who gets believed.
