Cleveland Justis PhD
Cleveland Justis has worked the seam between public agencies and private money for some thirty years. He started at the Headlands Institute, now NatureBridge, as an environmental science educator and ended up running it, then co-founded and directed the Institute at the Golden Gate. In 2011 he set up Potrero Group, a strategy and search firm serving parks, conservation nonprofits and agencies such as the National Park Service, and he still leads it. He took an interdisciplinary doctorate at UC Davis in 2019, directs its Executive Leadership Program, and teaches social entrepreneurship at Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Don't Lead Alone (Fast Company Press, 2023), written with his colleague Daniel Student, makes the case that the problems worth solving sit across the lines between business, government and nonprofits, and lays out how to build partnerships that cross them.
