Craig Johnson
1961
Johnson lives on a ranch in Ucross, Wyoming, a settlement of roughly twenty-five people, and worked as a police officer in New York before that. The Longmire novels follow a county sheriff who is competent, slow and unmodernised, and they take the reservation next door seriously rather than using it as scenery. There are around twenty, starting with The Cold Dish, and a television adaptation ran six seasons, moving from a cable channel to Netflix when it was cancelled. He built his own house.
