Daniel Church is the byline Simon Bestwick writes horror under, and he has a long back catalogue elsewhere. The Hollows is folk horror set in a Peak District village cut off by snow, opening with a body at the foot of a hill and moving towards what the villagers have been quietly feeding for a very long time. The book is more interested in how fast a small community closes ranks around its own arrangement than in the thing on the moor, which is the older and better tradition in this genre.
