Danuta Reah

Danuta Reah is a British novelist, short-story writer, editor, and teacher associated especially with psychological crime fiction. Raised in South Yorkshire, she returned to education as a mature student and later taught linguistics and creative writing. She has published under her own name and as Carla Banks, served as chair of the Crime Writers’ Association, and taken part in festivals and writers’ groups. The Forge is the shortened listing for The Forge: Fire and Ice, a 2019 speculative-fiction anthology featuring Reah alongside J. X. Plant, R. L. Kerrigan, Stuart Aken, and other contributors. Fantastic Books Publishing assembled stories that move between distant worlds, altered futures, strange portals, and encounters with unfamiliar beings. Reah’s participation links her established interest in suspense and psychological pressure to a collaborative science-fiction setting. The Forge therefore represents a different branch of her writing life from novels such as Only Darkness, while retaining her concern with characters placed under severe uncertainty and moral strain.
