Deborah J. Ross writes and edits science fiction and fantasy, with a long association with Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Darkover setting. Citadels of Darkover is a 2019 anthology she edited for the continuing sequence of stories set on the planet beneath its red sun. It follows Crossroads of Darkover and precedes Jewels of Darkover in the later anthology run. Ross has also written Darkover novels, including The Alton Gift, Hastur Lord, Thunderlord, and The Laran Gambit, and she completed the Clingfire trilogy from work begun with Bradley. Beyond Darkover, her books include the Seven-Petaled Shield fantasy trilogy and the science-fiction novel Collaborators, originally published under the name Deborah Wheeler. Her work as both novelist and editor gives Citadels of Darkover a distinct place in her bibliography: it gathers multiple contributors while extending a shared world that Ross has helped develop across novels, stories, and anthologies.
