DK Eyewitness Travel is an imprint, not a writer. Dorling Kindersley was founded in London in 1974 by Christopher Dorling and Peter Kindersley as a book packager, and made its name on a house style that put photographs and cutaway drawings on white space with the text arranged around them. The travel guides began in 1993 and applied the same method to cities: floor plans of galleries, cutaways of cathedrals, street-by-street maps drawn in three dimensions. The volume on Russia covers Moscow, St Petersburg and the routes between them in that format. Each guide is made by a team of writers, photographers, illustrators and cartographers who are credited inside rather than on the cover. DK belongs to Penguin Random House.
