Author: Dwight L. Moody

Dwight L. Moody organized nineteenth-century evangelical campaigns across the United States and British Isles with singer Ira D. Sankey. He also founded the institutions that developed into Moody Church, Moody Bible Institute, and Moody Publishers, along with schools at Northfield and Mount Hermon. Bible Characters first appeared as a collection of Moody's own addresses from Fleming H. Revell in 1888. A later volume under the same title brought selections from Moody together with work by fellow ministers Joseph Parker and T. De Witt Talmage; C. B. Gillette wrote its introduction. Both versions approach biblical figures individually as material for practical religious teaching. Moody continued preaching until his death in 1899.
