Capps was an Arkansas farmer who became a preacher and taught that words spoken aloud carry creative force, so that saying scripture over an illness or a debt sets a change in motion. God's Creative Power for Healing is a pocket booklet of verses to be read out loud, and it has sold in very large numbers. This is the Word of Faith position, and theologians across denominations reject it, arguing that it turns prayer into a technique and leaves the sick to conclude they did not believe hard enough. He held no theological qualification and died in 2014.
