Dylan S. Hearn

Dylan S. Hearn is a British science-fiction writer whose novels combine technological change with political and personal pressure. Second Chance opens the Transcendence Trilogy and was first published in 2014. Hearn designed the first volume to function as a complete story while also establishing the sequence continued by Absent Souls and Genesis Redux. His own account of writing the trilogy notes that later volumes became more dependent on the earlier narrative, whereas Second Chance retained a stand-alone shape. The series title signals its concern with transformation and the consequences of extending human capability, while the thriller structure keeps those questions tied to character decisions. Hearn was born in Ipswich, lived and worked in several parts of Europe, and later returned to the region near his birthplace. His published bibliography identifies the trilogy as his principal long-form project, with Second Chance providing its entry point and the foundation for its later developments.
