Author: Eleanor Luisa Haverfield
Eleanor Luisa Haverfield (1870–1945) was born at Callander in Scotland, the daughter of a retired major, and moved with her family to North Kensington in London after her father died when she was fifteen. She wrote more than forty-five books for young readers, mostly girls' school stories, family tales and light romances, published by British houses including Thomas Nelson and Sons. Her books carry the moral earnestness and close domestic detail of late-Victorian children's writing, even those set far from England. She retired to Peaslake in Surrey in the 1930s and died there in 1945.
