Elizabeth Bear
Elizabeth Bear writes science fiction and fantasy across novels, short stories, essays, and criticism. Her honours include Hugo, Locus, Sturgeon, and Astounding awards, and she has discussed futurism with scientific, technical, and public institutions. Saga Press published Machine as the second White Space novel. It follows rescue specialist Doctor Jens as she investigates an ancient generation ship entangled with a modern vessel, an unknown illness among the crew, and a shipmind whose memory has been damaged. The Folded Sky later extended the sequence. In Machine, Bear brings medicine and technology into a story about how people respond when the systems meant to protect a community begin to fail.
