Elizabeth Berg
Berg worked as a registered nurse for ten years before publishing anything, which is why the illness and the dying in her novels are accurate and unhurried. The Arthur Truluv books are about old people, grief and a diner, and they are gentler than contemporary American fiction usually permits itself to be. Open House was an Oprah selection. The Dream Lover is a novel about George Sand and is the outlier. She has published around thirty books and teaches writing, mostly to people starting late.
